Keyword Topia Review
I have been using Keyword Topia for a couple of months now. Now I have totally abandoned both Keywords Analyzer and Keyword Elite as my main keyword research tool.
What Does Keyword Topia Do?
Keyword Topia is an web based keyword research tool that helps you to research keywords from the following sources:
- Google Suggest
- Google Keyword Tool
- Overture Tool (Does not exist)
- Wordtracker Direct
- Wordtracker Alternate
- Keyword Discovery (Does not work)
- Ask
- Yahoo Related Suggestion
- Yahoo Related Tags
- Google Site-Related Keywords (Does not work)
- Meta Tag Gathering Tool (Does not work)
Other features include:
- Niche Research – Keywords
- Prepend/Append X to all keywords – Add other words to your keywords (like “cheap”, “buy”, “online”…)
- Prepend/Append States/Cities to all keywords – Add cities/states to your keywords
- Keyword Combiner – Create new keywords by combining words together
- Peel and Stick – Sub-divide your list based on keywords that occur more often than others
- Add + between words – Add + between your keywords (good for creating url’s and for adwords)
- Replace words – Add words to your list by replacing one word with another (like, replace dog with dogg)
- Pluralize words – Double your keyword list size with plurals
- New! Keyword List Cleaner – Clean unwanted words from your keyword list
- Add “” and [] to all keywords – Prepare your keyword list to be copied into Google Adwords
The Bad…
I personally only use the keyword research tools of Keyword Topia. I don’t really care about the rest of the stuff. As you can see from the keyword sources that actually work, there are 3 of them that don’t work – Keyword Discovery, Google Site-Related Keywords and Meta Tag Gathering Tool. The Overture keyword source is missing. I think it used to be there but I do not see it now. No worries about that, you may use a free tool like Good Keywords to gather all the Overture keywords you want.
I don’t understand why John Jonas still publishes them on his sales letter but I have confirmation from him that Keyword Discovery was never really part of Keyword Topia. There are not enough paying members to justify the cost of using Keyword Discovery’s API. If you select Keywords Discovery in your keyword search, you will get zero results returned.
Another thing that irritates me a lot is the Wordtracker keyword source. I get charged whenever I search for a keyword from Wordtracker, even if it returns no results. I am not sure if this can be fixed but I don’t it is fair. Thankfully, it costs only a few cents.
Sometimes the Wordtracker keyword source has bugs and you will get no results for some keywords and you know for a fact that would be impossible. I once mad a search for “dog” using the Wordtracker keyword source and it returned nothing. I had to email John to ask what happened to the tool and he got it fixed rather quickly.
The Good…
I like Keyword Topia for 2 main reasons.
- It saves me a lot of money
- It saves me a lot of time
Keyword Topia costs $19.50 per month and you need to purchase “Premium Credits” to use the Wordtracker keyword source. If you find this expensive, read on to find out how much Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery cost.
“Premium Credits” sell for:
- $100 Premium Keyword Lookups
- $50 Premium Keyword Lookups
- $20 Premium Keyword Lookups
- $10 Premium Keyword Lookups
Keyword Topia’s Keyword Bills:
- Wordtracker costs average out to $0.08 per query for them
- Keyword Discovery costs average out to $0.05 per query for them
Keyword Topia charges you an extra $0.01 per query above their cost ($0.09 and $0.06 per query) to make up for the unused queries that they have to pay for and to make up for the transaction processing costs for those services.
Depending on how much keyword research you do, I find Keyword Topia a very cheap and efficient tool to research keywords. You may now “pay per search” without the time restrictions and unreasonable fees of a typical Wordtracker account.
Here’s a more detailed way to see how much money you stand to save if you use Keyword Topia.
Wordtracker Pricing:
- 1 Year – $275.88
- 1 Month – $55.18
- 1 Week – $27.59
Keyword Discovery Pricing:
- Standard: $69.95 per month
- Standard: $599.40 per year
- Enterprise: $495.00 per month
- Enterprise: $4455.00 per year
As you can see, they don’t allow you to “pay per search” and they don’t care if you make the most of your subscription period. If you do not do a lot of keyword research often, these tools may cost to much for you.
Keyword Topia is cheaper to use than Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery combined. It also provides you more results – 500 keywords while Wordtracker only gives you 300. Furthermore, if you have ever tried to use these premium keyword sources, you will find that their web sites are so terrible and you will end up wasting a lot of time gathering your keywords.
Conclusion
I believe Keyword Topia is a great tool regardless of the bad points I pointed out above. Anyone on a limited budget can now access Wordtracker keywords at a very low price. You may sign up and try them free for 30 days to see if you like it or not. We won’t be fleeced by these premium keyword services again and we can invest that money on more productive stuff.
